How to prepare yourself?
Change requires some time, space & '“sacrifices”. First of all, you need to make a general cleaning of your living space. Maybe even move things around so there is no attachment to your old self. Have you ever noticed that all productive and successful people have their space nice, clean, and neat? By the way, monks do that, too. The first thing after meditation is to clean everything around. Here are a couple of points why it is important.
When you clean your living space around you, you clean the space inside of your head. What is inside that what is outside. Change comes from inside out & viseversa. If you start to take care of your living space and working space, you will start to see that your thoughts are different. You become more focused, calm, and organized.
Another one (from monk’s perspective) you are working with your ego. Ego is usually ignorant & arrogant. Imagine cleaning your bathroom and toilets. No one likes that. Or better say no ego like that. But the more you do it, the better you become. It is natural law. You never do nothing. You are either practicing self-mastery and working to be the best self, or you practicing self-destruction. Even procrastination. You practicing procrastination. And day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year…You became a master of procrastination.
Moving on, after cleaning your living & working space, start paying attention to your surrounding circle. Do your friends and family support your desire to change? Do they inspire you to keep on moving towards your better self? If not, it is time to take a break from everything familiar. You don’t have to burn the bridges (although it is sometimes necessary), but taking a healthy break from a familiar environment would be a good starting point.
Last but not least, pay attention to where you waste or invest your time. I’ve heard somewhere that in the German language, there is no such a thing as “spending”. They always investing. So try this approach in your life. “Where do I invest my time, money, and energy? Am I investing in self mastery or in self destruction?” Step by step, you will see tremendous results. Just keep in mind - there is no big & small steps in life. All the big steps is a compound of everyday small wins. Peace & Love. Art
